Shade Trees (Large Trees) are the trees of 30’ in height and larger that provide a canopy and have a major effect on the climate of a landscape or garden. Site selection is important in choosing a shade tree. They can be fast, medium or slow growing.

Ornamental Trees

Ornamental Trees (Small Trees) are the link between shrubs and large trees in the landscape or garden. Generally classified from 12’ to 25’ in height, and often provide a flower or bloom. Ornamental trees are one of the important design elements in the landscape because they can be used in smaller spaces of a yard or under power lines etc.

Fruit Trees – Fruit trees are not only appealing to the orchardist but are visually attractive and used widely by the home owner. With proper pruning, spraying and use of cross-pollinators, when needed, plentiful quality fruit can be enjoyed.

Small Fruits such as Grapes, Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Currants, Gooseberries are still very popular with the home owner. They not only provide edible fruit but provide very nice foliage color and texture.

Conifers (Evergreens) evergreens find widespread use in home landscapes with their various foliage colors and textures, growing habits ranging from ground hugging to columnar in nature. Evergreens, which their name implies, can provide year around color to the landscape.

Flowering Shrubs

Flowering Shrubs

Shrubs with their almost unlimited variety of sizes, shapes and colors, can add a distinctive touch as an accent plant or used in a hedge. Shrubs can be divided into three size groups basically. Dwarf shrubs usually under 4’ in height, Intermediate shrubs ranging from 4’ to 6’ , and Tall shrubs of more than 6’.

Vines

Vines contribute to the mood of a garden or landscape. These multi-purpose plants add another dimension by growing where other plants do not – in the air. They can be used to cover walls, as screens on fences or on a trellis. They fall in two general classifications: Those that need support for growth and those that climb by tendrils.

Ornamental Grasses

Ornamental grasses have become very popular for landscape use in recent years. They are among the most versatile garden and landscape plants and are at home with annuals, perennials and shrubs in mixed beds. They are planted as individual specimens or massed in groups. Various sizes, colors, textures and plumes provide eye-catching movements.

Roses

Shrub Roses are becoming so very popular because of constant bloom color, their hardiness to cold climate areas, disease-resistant qualities and their little care required. Most shrub roses are grown on their own roots which supplies their hardiness values. There are so many new colors and many produce nice fragrance also. Size ranges can range from Ground Cover Carpet type up to 6’ however, most range in the 3’ to 4’ range.

Modern Rose Types are more of Bud & Bloom type or cut Roses that come in a beautiful variety of colors; Hybrid Teas, Grandifloras, Floribundas and Climbing types. Very popular for many years and new varieties are especially budded every year.
