Ever wonder what attracts Wild Birds to a yard? Obviously, a nice food source is a factor but more importantly FRESH WATER.
- Wild Birds are constantly seeking water in the Summer because of their high metabolic rate and respiratory systems drain more moisture from their bodies resulting in dehydrated birds during the summer. Birds do not seek water just to quench their thirst, they also use it for bathing and cleaning their feathers. Clean feathers are very important for a birds’ health as well as their flying ability.
- Nesting is another reason to keep fresh water around. Parents who are nesting would love to have a convenient water source nearby so they don’t need to be away from the nest for extended periods of time.
- Fresh water will also attract birds to your hard that would not ordinarily come to your feeders!
