Seeing White Patches In Your Lawn?

The grass is growing, it’s been mowed a few times, and now little white patches are showing up in the lawn.  Sound familiar? You are not alone.  We have had a lot of customers seeing these same white patches in their lawn. They want know what is going on, and more importantly, what to do about it.

Powdery Mildew Close UpWHAT IT IS:  What you are seeing is called Powdery Mildew. Powdery Mildew is a fungus that usually develops in lawns that are actively growing, Spring or Fall. It is also common in areas of the that tend to be more shaded.  While most lawns will eventually recover if left untreated, Powdery Mildew can thin the grass and can be very unsightly.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT:  Mowing more frequently, watering only in the morning, and avoiding over fertilization are the best cultural control methods.  There are not many fungicides labeled for Powdery Mildew control; however, the best is Bonide Infuse Disease Control. It comes in a ready to spray bottle so you can just hook it to your hose and GO!
