For the Blackhawks Big Bluestem Grass, the foliage of 'Blackhawks' emerges deep green to dark purple in spring and deepens to near black by fall. Flowering stems rise in late summer above the foliage clump bearing purplish 3-parted, finger-like flower clusters.
