The grass might look greener on the other side, but we have a little secret…it’s probably Astroturf!
Ok, maybe it’s not, but a healthy, lush, green lawn does take some extra TLC, and the truth is, not all lawn programs are created equal. That’s where we come in. Unlike national brands, which are the same product anywhere in the country,
we have formulated our lawn programs specifically for Midwestern Lawns with PROVEN, TESTED, RESULTS!
Why Earl May?
1. Earl May Lawn Programs have MORE nutrients per bag
2. The EXTRA Iron & Sulphur feeds the soil and helps release nutrients that may be
locked-up in your lawn
3. We used Timed-Release Nitrogen that feeds slowly over time, keeping your lawn greener, healthier, longer.
our Lawn Care Programs are designed to fit your needs and give you the healthiest lawn. Plus, we have the added benefits of us storing the bags for you so you can pick up each step individually. Don’t have a spreader, we will let you borrow one of ours.
Sign up for email and/or text reminders and we’ll let you know when it’s time to apply the next step.
BONUS: you’ll earn TRIPLE PERKS points on all complete lawn program purchases.
Let's Talk Products
Before we detail the different programs available, it’s important you know more about the 7 products that we use to create lawn programs and how they benefit Midwest lawns!
Crabgrass Preventer
- Pre-emergent. Prevents crabgrass, spurge, foxtail, and other grassy weeds from germinating.
- Time-released fertilizer allows feeding over time vs. all at once. This helps lawns fill inand turns a yellow lawn, dark green for a longer period of time.
- Application: March 15-May 1. Can be applied as late as May 15 in Northern & Eastern Iowa.
- Apply when dandelions and other broad-leafed weeds are actively growing, and the daytime temperature is above 60 F.
- For best results, do not water in. Weed control should stick to the leaves for 24 -48 hours prior to being watered or rain. Also provides a full feeding of time-released fertilizer.
- Application: May 1-June 15. Apply as early as April 1 in Kansas and Missouri. This product can be used again in the fall when weeds are actively growing.
Insect Control
- Use Insect Control when you first notice surface insects.
- Application: June 1-August 1
- A second application may be necessary in 4-5 weeks if there is additional infestation.
Grub Control
- Prevents white grubs and other lawn damaging insects all season long.
- Application: June 1-August 1. Lawns with a heavy thatch layer may require a second application in 6 weeks.
- Controls 90-95% of grub population.
- Water in after applying.
Summer
- Contains extra iron and sulfur for the health of your soil and for extra deep greening.
- Especially important for lawns with irrigation systems as consistent watering can leach nutrients from the soil.
- Application: June 15-August 1. Apply as early as June 1 in Kansas and Missouri.
- Designed for summer lawn care programs but can be applied any time of the year.
- CAUTION: Iron stains concrete and must be swept, not washed off all concrete surfaces.
Lawn Food
- Time-releasednitrogen with sulfur, iron, copper, magnesium, and zinc which improves the health of your soil.
- Application: August 15-October 1.
- Watering is recommended to quicken theuptake of food by the grass roots.
Fall Lawn
- Contains time-released nitrogen with extra nutrients lawns need to thrive.
- Application: October 1-November 15.
- Helps lawn store nutrients so it will be greener and thicker when it emerges in the spring.
- Helps with disease resistance and overall hardiness.
- Experts agree, feeding your lawn in the Fall is key to having a thick, green, healthy lawn next season.

What About Seeding?
If you are overseeding or starting a new lawn, you will want to use a lawn program specifically for that purpose. We have programs designed for this too. Our lawn programs for seeding replaces the Crabgrass Preventer with a Crabgrass Preventer for seeding. This product differentiates between a weed seed and a lawn seed, therefore allowing the lawn seed to germinate but not the weed.
